Prep time: 5 minutes; Makes 2 1/2 cups
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I started to drink a green shake that includes chlorella and spirulina along with all the supplements I am taking like turkey tail, grape seed extract, etc. Honestly, it tastes horrible. I make myself chug it down these days because I know that it will help me stay cancer free. Luckily, I’m a very disciplined individual–even a little bit type A?
Oh how I miss the times BC, Before Cancer. I would often have dance class at 9 o’clock and I would always be running late. I came up with this shake as my go to breakfast for those mornings when I needed to make breakfast in less than five minutes and then drink this chocolate shake alternative during rush hour traffic. It made the snail paced traffic bearable as I got to sip this deliciously smooth and creamy drink leisurely.
I really do believe that breakfast is the most important meal and this is why I came up with this recipe for myself. It has great nutritional value and gives me the calories I need to dance early in the morning so that I am not feeling like I’m going to faint before lunch. The best part is that I can be light on my feet and not feel like a slug that just ate Toledo.
Occasionally I will skip my green shake now and a gain and have this shake for my breakfast. Feel free to indulge without any of the guilt!
Tools
Blender or Vitamix
Ingredients
2 tbs Coconut oil
2 tbs hemp seeds
1/2 avocado
2 cups coconut or almond milk
4 medjool dates
3 tbs carob powder
1 strawberry
Directions
Combine all the ingredients in a blender or Vitamix. The coconut oil gives it depth and the hemp seeds provide protein. The avocado provides the smooth creamy consistency not to mention lots of healthy goodness. Blend for 1-3 minutes until smooth. Let the drink sit for five minutes for extra thick consistency. Slice the strawberry lengthwise and add as garnish. You won’t believe it’s not chocolate!
